Butterfly Milkweed, Purple Blazing Star & Big Bluestem Native Wildflower Art
Original Acrylic Painting on Reclaimed Wood
This beautiful piece inspired by the native prairies of Iowa, this original painting celebrates three iconic prairie plants: vibrant Butterfly Milkweed, graceful Purple Blazing Star, and the sweeping movement of Big Bluestem grass.
To me, walking through a field of wildflowers feels like stepping into a painting God created. The colors, textures, and movement found in the prairie have inspired me for years, and this piece captures a small glimpse of that beauty.
Painted on reclaimed wood, the natural grain and character of the surface become part of the composition, creating a connection between the artwork and the landscape that inspired it. Layers of acrylic paint and subtle metallic details bring warmth and dimension to the flowers while allowing the wood's history to shine through.
This piece is part of my Painted Prairie Collection, a series inspired by the native wildflowers and grasses that once covered much of Iowa's landscape. As a way of giving back to the prairies that inspire my work, 10% of every Painted Prairie Collection sale is donated to Iowa conservation efforts that help preserve and restore native habitats for future generations.
