I absolutely love decorating for the holidays! After decorating for 33 years of marriage and 4 children and running a home decor artist business, I’ve learned a few things! Here’s what I’ve learned to keep things in budget and not break the bank!
- Use what you have! I’m always trying to use existing home decor items in my holiday decor. Such as this dough bowl. Throw a few candles, Christmas picks, and decorative snow in and voila! Super easy and versatile!
2. Another easy tip I like to do is throw some bottle brush trees right into my existing home decor items! I used to switch everything out, but that just became too much work. Now I just add a little bit of festivity into my existing color scheme, which happens to be gray, pink and a touch of gold!
3. We all have those items we inherited from our grandmothers we don’t quite know what to do with. Well mine was about 200 bells! I went through all the bells and separated according to holidays. These brass bells I get out every Christmas to enjoy. They are down at eye level, so my grand kids can enjoy ringing them as much as I did as a child!
4. I saved the best for last! My absolute favorite trick is to pickup some boxwood! Faux boxwood wreaths and garland can be used year around in all aspects of your decorating. Here I hung a boxwood wreath above my bed, boxwood garland pinned to my upholstered headboard. Boxwood garland can also be added to a curtain rod as a festive valance. This same garland has been placed in my dough bowl for a table center piece and the wreath repurposed on my front door!
I hope this helps you come up with some new ways to decorate your home for the holidays without stressing! If you use any of the tips I suggested in this post, I would love to hear your feedback on how it worked for you! If you feel like you could use a little extra help, we can always setup a consultation to work with me!
